Default WPA2 Password

First off, all of my LAN ports are bad. So I can not connect via a hardwire. I was trying to convert to a wireless range extender.  I managed to download and install the latest dd-wrt firmware. However, when I try to connect via WIFI to dd-wrt it is requesting a WPA2 password. I also tried 30/30/30 with the same results.

Any suggestions?

ReadyShare Vault on Tomato

I'm ready to upgrade my R7000 to Tomato firmware but one thing is stopping me.  Currently I use the Netgear ReadyShare Vault as a simple backup solution for a Windows laptop.  I am unsure whether this requires specific Netgear services from the default firmware or whether it is enough just to set up USB storage over SMB.  Does anybody know?

R7000 Shibby Tomato Kill Switch Issues

Hello everyone, first post here, used the forums a lot to reasearch the router and the software for my VPN so wanted to thank all contibutors for that help.

My issue - I have an R7000 Nighthawk with Tomato by Shibby installed, it works great except one problem, when the VPN kicks me off the Kill switch comes in as it should and I cannot get on the internet without restarting the router, this happens 3 times a day I would guess, guaranteed every morning I have to restart the router which doesn't take long but is a pain.

Can anyone tell me why or how I can get the router to auto reconnect after the killswitch has been activated?

Thanks very much

R7000 Tomato VPN behind AT&T NVG589 IP Passthrough Issues

Hi all,

I am new to this but figured I would this a shot and I am having issues.

I have a Motorala NVG589 modem through AT&T.  It does NOT have bridge mode and from researching the closest is the IP Passthrough Mode.  The passthrough is pointing at the WAN MAC address for my R7000.

I can get OpenVPN to start. I am currently trying to redirect all traffic through the VPN until I can get it dialed in and use the routing policies.  When I start the VPN it shows that it is running and when I check the logs it just keeps saying

unknown user.notice root: vpnrouting: searching gateway for tun11

I am not sure what is causing this or if I am even able to run my VPN behind this particular AT&T modem.

If I need to copy/paste my logs for someone to see can you please advise what sensitive information should be removed? I am a newb after all lol. laugh

Thanks in advance!

Circle / Advanced Configuration of R7000P?

$

Hi all,

I just recently purchased the R7000P mostly because my kids figured out that to disable Circle for Disney all they have to do is unplug it.  Bit harder when it's in the router. (evil grin)

Anyway, I'm finding that the stock firmware has some fairly significant limitations (apparently).  Things like not being able to SSH into the router itself, unable to set a DNS suffix, or other DNS options, the ability to run scripts (in my case for updating DDNS on TunnelBroker), etc. etc. etc.  I frankly find it very odd that I can't even resolve devices on the same router! (I assume because it's forwarding DNS instead of implementing a server).

OK, rant over :)

Question: I get limiting what's in the GUI, but is there any way to enable SSH or Telnet (eek!) to this router?  Alternatively, I'm aware of a DD-WRT build for this, which to be honest is perfect, but I'm assuming I'd lose the Circle capability if I do that.  Confirm/deny?

Thanks,

Dion

How to allow certain ip to bypass vpn

Hello all,

I have succesfully setup openvpn using ipvanish with Kong latest build on R7000. I have been looking for a way to allow one computer with static ip assigned i.e 10.0.0.100 to bypass the vpn. So far I have no luck in doing so. I use policy based routing and input all others ip except 10.0.0.100 and it does not work.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Amir

Setup behind ISP router

I am in the UK. I have a BT Home Hub 4 router in my living room, input = ADSL 2+, output = 1 of the 4 LAN outputs (the single Gigabit port) going into my TP-LINK 8 port Gigabit switch (TL-SG108v2). From here I have several of the 8 ports connected to TV equipment (Android TV box, YouView box, A/V amplifier, etc.) in the living room. One of the remaining 8 ports runs from my living room to my dining room on the other side of my house and currently plugs into one of the 4 LAN ports of my Netgear R7000. The other 3 LAN ports are connected to my backup server, printer, main PC.

With this setup all my devices have the same IP group 192.168.1.x

The BT Home Hub is the DHCP server

Both my BT Home Hub 4 and the R7000 have their 2.54GHz and 5GHz wireless turned on but with different SSIDs and different channels (to minimise interfence).

Question 1

I really want to use the WAN port on the R7000 as another LAN port, since I want to attach one more device in my dining room and there are no spare LAN ports. Is this possible? I know that I could connect the existing cable from the TP-Link switch to the R7000 WAN port and so gain the extra LAN port but this then makes another IP group 192.168.2.x and now some of my devices cannot see the others.

Question 2

I also thought that the R7000 would make a better "main" router than the BT Home Hub 4. Is it possible to off-load some of the routing tasks to the R7000? As it stands I cannot use the QOS feature and some other features since I do not use the WAN port. Is this where bridging the BT Home Hub 4 comes into play?

Question 3

Would any of the above be possible if I switched from the official Netgear firmware 1.0.9.10_1.2.21 to one of the 3rd party firmwares?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Darren

Hi;

I am trying to upgrade my R7000 to the newest dd-wrt software. I currently have version v24-sp2 installed on my router. Can I use the .chk file or do I need a .bin file to upgrade with? If I need a .bin file, where can I find it?

thanks

WAN speed seriously crippled on R7000

Recently moved to 1gb service from my provider, but my R7000 running either DD-WRT or Advanced Tomato appears to be a huge bottleneck. I did some tests and getting around 300Mbps when running on the R7000 versus 800Mbps when connected directly to my cable modem. I decided to try out a TP-Link AC3200 (which I'm probably going to return as it doesn't support OpenVPN) and was getting 750Mbps. So it is clear that the R7000 is doing something.

DuckDNS working on Kong builds?

Hi guys,

I posted this topic over on the dd-wrt forums but i got no response, so i am hoping i get more luck here!!

I was using no-ip.com ddns with no issues using this same build, so i have configure ddns before without issue. I wanted to move to duckdns, purely so i dont have to re-register the domain ever 30 days. Whatever settings i use i get a KO message on the log, and the IP is not updated at duckdns.

Anyone have any ideas? I am running v3.0-r32170M kongac (06/11/17) on a Netgear R7000

Hello together,

my question is. Work OpenVPN Server and Access Resctrictions together ?

On my old Router (TP-Link 1043 V1) I used a script. But doesn't go.
OpenVPN runs in tap mode and I like to block some ports for special Openvpn clients.

Thanks..

Some wifi devices don't connect after 11/1 upgrade

$

I upgraded the firmware on my r7000 using the dd-wrt.K3_R7000_20171101.zip build. After upgrading, some wireless devices work, some don't. My laptop connects fine, but my phone (Samsung S7) and thermostat (carrier wireless) failed to connect. When I downgraded to dd-wrt.K3_R7000_7.zip, everything connected again.

Did a configuration item change or is this possibly a problem in the build?

Thanks!

New user guide to installing DD-WRT Kong mod

I have a new R7000 with factory firmware.  I'd like to read an official guide on installing DD-WRT Kong mod.  I found several user-created "guides" that I would term unofficial.  Some of these are quite dated (circa 2013).  Can someone point me to an official document?  Thanks.

Login Issues (probably my fault)

My Version: Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r33675M kongac (11/03/17)
I recently updated my router Tue Nov 7 2017 changed the default username and password to my own.
When I try to login to the router I am unable to login with my username and password, its possible that I may have hit a wrong key when typing the username so I am looking for the best/safest way to reset the router back to default.

I read here http://infodepot.wikia.com/wiki/Hard_reset_or_30/30/30
I can use telnet to reset the NVRAM but am unsure if the code is safe or not.
1. is this safe?
2. is there a better way to reset the router back to defaults.

My internet works, its just the login issue.

Much thanks for the help.
